A knockout, heavy, brass capstan on mahogany base from the powerboat "Fern", a 59 foot powerboat owned by F. Perkins. Fern was launched in 1906 and built at the Robt. Jacob shipyard at City Island, NY. The windlass was made by the American Ship's Windlass Company of Providence, Rhode Island; the company that developed the working windlass and made seafaring machinery for the US Navy and most ships built in the US at the time plus many abroad. Gorgeous antique piece. Dimensions: 21" L x 9.5" H
