Extremely rare World War II ships wheel station from the fletcher class destroyer U.S.S. O’Bannon. This is the emergency steering station by Hyde Windlass Co of Bath Maine. The original builder plate by Hyde is further engraved DD450 and also has the U.S. Navy’s Anchor stamp. Noted as type 1012, no 13501. The relic is fabulous. It has an incredible heavy pedestal with degree scale with indicator arrow. The control wheel is very heavy.
A second plate reads notice, lever to be on “port pump when using gear”. This relates to hydraulics. Mounted to a heavy wood base. Circa 1942

Destroyer USS O'Bannon (DD-450) was commissioned at Boston, Massachusetts, on 26 June 1942 with E.R. Wilkinson in command. After training briefly in the Caribbean, O'Bannon set sail on 29 August for the southwest Pacific, where she joined the fleet in the battle for Guadalcanal.
