Antique model of the John Alden designed schooner "Mendham". The Mendham was built by Hodgdon Brothers in 1930 for Boston owner Leonard Wheeler. S.B. Boutilier was the captain. This highly detailed yacht model has many skylights, companionways, a winch, anchors, and two motorized launches on davits. Other details include painted liferings, shrouds with wood steps, a sunken cockpit with a wheel and benches, furled sails, etc. The case has a heavy and thick brass plaque from the U.S. Coast Guard for valuable service by the Mendham during World War II. A second plate is engraved "Corsair Fleet CCR-1004." The Corsair Fleet was a civilian flotilla of private vessels used in World War II, similar to the Dunkirk group in England. The model is fitted to a custom glass display case.
