Boat Compass on Gimbal in a Mahogany Box

Nineteenth century solid brass gimbaled boat compass that has been meticulously polished and lacquered, and fitted to a varnished mahogany box with a lid. The lid has two brass hooks. The compass is by E.S. Ritchie and Sons of Boston, Massachusetts. The bezel is engraved with serial number 81097. A nice, heavy late nineteenth century compass.
