Framed International Code of Signals Hotel (H) maritime signal flag, professionally mounted within a shadow box display. Constructed of vertically divided white and red linen panels, the flag retains its original heavy canvas hoist, rope lanyard, and wooden toggle. Used aboard merchant and naval vessels, alphabet signal flags formed part of the International Code of Signals, enabling ships to communicate navigational, operational, and emergency messages between vessels and shore stations.
When raised alone, the Hotel flag signified "I have a pilot on board," indicating that a qualified maritime pilot was aboard the vessel to assist with navigation in confined or local waters. A well-presented mid-century maritime display piece, ideal for collectors of naval and nautical memorabilia.
