Framed International Code of Signals Uniform (U) maritime signal flag, professionally mounted within a shadow box display. Constructed of quartered red and white linen panels, the flag retains its original heavy canvas hoist, rope lanyard, and wooden toggle. Used aboard merchant and naval vessels, alphabet signal flags formed part of the International Code of Signals, enabling ships to communicate navigational, operational, and emergency messages between vessels and shore stations.
When raised alone, the Uniform flag signified "You are running into danger," warning another vessel that it was approaching a hazard and should alter course or exercise extreme caution. A well-presented mid-century maritime display piece, ideal for collectors of naval and nautical memorabilia.
